Electronic Muscle Stimulator (ATENS-01)

Electronic Muscle Stimulator

New Page 1
Acupuncture Simulator (Stimulator) is a convenient stimulation technique to be utilized with the same acupuncture points and the same number of treatments as with manual acupuncture. For busy practitioners and those who do not normally provide prolonged manual needle stimulation, even when it is normally called for according to Chinese literature, acupuncture stimulation may improve the clinical situation. In cases where intensive, high frequency, and prolonged treatments might be deemed essential, as with certain stubborn neurological disorders, acupuncture stimulation may be the only means to provide effective daily treatments. Practitioners should consult literature accompanying the device they purchase regarding contraindications for electro-acupuncture and recommendations for using different pulse forms and frequencies, but should also be aware that there may be very limited basis for some of the statements that are made.

TENS Unit Questions & Answers

What are TENS units?
TENS units (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) are a highly effective form of pain relief using electrical pulses.

How does a TENS unit work?
TENS unit pads are placed on or near the pain area. Soothing pulses are sent via the tens unit pads through the skin and along the nerve fibers. The pulses suppress pain signals to the brain. TENS also encourages the body to produce natural pain killing chemicals called Endorphins and Encephalins.

How long does TENS unit pain relief last?

Some benefit from their TENS unit for days after a short treatment, whilst others need to use their unit for longer periods.

Will the treatment hurt?
No, the sensation felt is very pleasant and soothing and is totally controlled by you.

How long before I feel benefit from my TENS unit?
Some people's pain is relieved immediately whilst others need a little longer. You should also take into account that it may take a while to find the best position for the electrodes.

Are TENS units safe to use with other medication?
Yes, and you may be able to stop taking pain killing drugs or at least reduce your intake.

How does the TENS unit work?
When exercising your muscles receive small signals via nerve endings to initiate their contraction. Once a muscle has contracted and the nerve is no longer sending a signal, the muscle will relax.
